In English this time! There is always a sequel for the good stuff, that's why this post is called 'Part-2'. Movie soundtracks are one of the good stuff. They turned out to be a great source of money for Studios and thus they decided to take risks. Inviting solo artists or Music bands to write the score of a movie is a challenge. It can be either incredible or either terrible. I choose the first option and I share with you good sounds!
A) Southland Tales (2006) by Moby
A crazy and bizarre movie by Richard Kelly (known for the cult classic Donnie Darko). In this mix of drama, political satire and film noir, he gathered Sarah Michelle Gellar (one of her best roles), Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (definitely, its best movie), Sean ''Stifler'' William Scott (first dramatic role), Mandy Moore and Justin Timberlake (!). Crazy right? Despite being a box-office failure, the movie is supported by a great script and by the music of Moby. The feeling of living in a society which is falling appart is strengthened by Moby's music. Here is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. Beautiful.
B) The Fountain (2006) by Clint Mansell + Kronos Quartet + Mogwai
After an amazing formula for Requiem for a Dream's soundtrack (Clint Mansell + Kronos Quartet), the amazing Darren Aronofsky asked for Clint Mansell to collaborate with Scottish band Mogwai for the score. Not only the music is incredibly powerful but both story and music become one. The result is a masterpiece that has been completely ignored in the cinemas . Worth listening and watching.
C) Her (2014) by Arcade Fire
Spike Jonze had to come up with his creativity to tell such a special and great love story. Their love story is simple but complex at the same time. How could a band, such as Arcade Fire, come up with a music that fits? An hommage to Ambient music and minimal music was the answer with an Arcade Fire touch. To listen whilst dreaming about love.
D) The Social Network by Trent Reznor (NIN) and Atticus Ross
Another masterpiece (won the Oscar for Best Soundtrack), Music is filled with Industrial and electronic music references. It is great to see that this Soundtrack stands by himself and does not need the support of a story and actors to enjoy it. This was the first attempt of Trent Reznor (leader of the band Nine Inch Nails) and Atticus Ross to write a film's score. They came together again in the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
E) The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Air
The debut feature of Sofia Coppola (Francis Ford Coppola's daughter) marked also the first collaboration of Coppola with French electronic music group Air . The paused rhythm of the movie and the chill and dreamy music combines perfectly. The movie and its soundtrack were widely praised by audiences and critics.
